Baby & Wedding Shower Planning Tips
Get creative with shower games
If you’ve been to a shower before, chances are you’ve already fallen victim to a number of generic, predictable games.
Instead of having guests guess the circumference of the pregnant momma’s belly at a baby shower, or playing purse raid at a bridal shower, why not get a little creative with your shower game ideas? You could, for example, hold a baby bib or onesie-decorating contest, letting the guest of honor choose her favorite ones. Or you could play “Two Truths and a Lie” at a wedding shower, asking participants to guess which of three statements is untrue.
Or, at either baby showers or wedding showers, consider gathering old baby photos of your guests ahead of time (with their permission, of course) and playing a “guess the baby” game. This one always leads to lots of laughter.
Set a time limit on gift opening
Sure, everybody loves watching the guest-of-honor open their gifts and seeing her reactions. However, after about a half an hour, your guests will probably start to get antsy. Try to limit the time for gift opening to no more than 30-45 minutes. If there are a lot of gifts to get through, consider having someone help with the gift opening, such as close family member.
Baby shower? How about a gender reveal?
Has the guest of honor revealed the gender of the baby? If not—and if she’s comfortable with it, of course—you might suggest holding a reveal party at the shower. There are so many fun ways to go about doing this. For example, you could have a cake baked in pink (for a girl) or blue (for a boy) and covered in a neutral frosting. When it’s time for dessert, have the guest of honor cut into the cake to reveal the gender to everybody!
